Hankinson expected to report to prison despite appeal
LOUISVILLE, KY. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Former Louisville Metro Police detective Brett Hankison began serving his federal prison sentence today.
According to ABC affiliate WHAS 11 News, Hankison was found guilty of violating Breonna Taylor’s civil rights during the deadly 2020 police raid that killed her. While Taylor was killed by another officer’s bullet, prosecutors say Hankison fired blindly into her apartment and a neighboring unit.
Hankison was sentenced to 33 months in federal prison in July but had remained free while his attorneys filed appeals. A federal judge denied his request for additional time, ordering him to report to prison today.
