Attorney General Coleman sues Roblox, calling it a “website of choice for child predators”
FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman has filed a lawsuit against Roblox, accusing the online gaming and social platform of creating what he calls “a hunting ground for child predators.”
According to a release, the lawsuit—filed in Madison Circuit Court—alleges Roblox knowingly allowed an unsafe online environment that has led to the exploitation of minors in Kentucky. Coleman said Roblox “ignored this crisis so it could continue turning a profit,” adding that his office’s duty is to protect Kentucky children from companies that “knowingly facilitate” online exploitation.
The complaint claims Roblox violated the Kentucky Consumer Protection Act and other laws by failing to warn parents and children about known dangers, allowing predators and international organizations to distribute child sexual abuse material, and not enforcing effective safety measures.
Roblox, which has more than 380 million monthly users, allows children as young as six to create accounts. Coleman’s office says the platform has become a tool for predators to groom and target victims, even leading to real-world violence.
A Jefferson County mother quoted in the release said Roblox gives parents a “false sense of security,” describing it as an app that’s “nearly impossible to police.”
The Attorney General’s Office is asking the court to block Roblox from continuing its conduct in Kentucky and to fine the company up to $2,000 per violation.
