Animal Welfare Society issues “Code Red”
PARIS, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — The Paris Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) in Bourbon County is sounding the alarm — declaring a “Code Red” as the shelter runs out of space for new dogs.
Staff says every kennel is full, and recent intakes from Animal Control have pushed the shelter past capacity. In just the last few days, three additional strays were brought in, forcing difficult decisions about housing and care.
Many of the dogs currently at PAWS are on stray hold, meaning they may have owners still searching for them. Others have been waiting months for adoption, even with reduced or waived fees.
Shelter staff are urging anyone considering surrendering a pet to reach out first for assistance or alternative resources. They’re also asking the community to adopt, foster, or donate to help care for the animals already there.
Adoption and donation details can be found at pawspets.org.
