White House responds after early release of man convicted in 2015 killing of Woodford County child

VERSAILLES, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — The White House says it is reviewing the case of Ronald Exantus, the man convicted in connection with the 2015 killing of 6-year-old Logan Tipton in Versailles, after his early release from prison last week.

In a post on social media, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt called the situation “unacceptable,” saying in part, “It’s unacceptable for a child killer to walk free after just several years in prison.”

According to Kentucky Department of Corrections records, Exantus was released from the Kentucky State Reformatory after serving less than seven years of a 20-year sentence. He remains under mandatory reentry supervision until June 2026.

Exantus was found not guilty of murder and burglary by reason of insanity but guilty but mentally ill on assault charges for stabbing Logan Tipton to death during a 2015 home invasion in Woodford County. Investigators said Exantus drove from Indianapolis, broke into the Tipton family’s home, and attacked multiple members of the family. Police determined the attack was random and that Exantus did not know the victims.

The case gained national attention for its disturbing nature and the defense’s argument that Exantus was suffering from a psychotic break at the time of the killing.

Tipton’s family has continued to advocate for tougher sentencing laws through “Logan’s Law,” a proposal aimed at ensuring harsher penalties for violent crimes involving children.
