“This was more of an emotional loss than anything.”

Winchester collector talks break-in and damages to shop and cars

WINCHESTER, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — A collector in Winchester is dealing with the aftermath of a recent break-in to his shop.

The damages are not only physical to the shop and also his cars, but it’s more about the emotional weight and the sentimental attachment they carry.
“The perpetrator took this rock and hurled it through this window,” says Doug Herald, owner and collector, as he described a recent break-in to his shop.

The alleged perpetrator caught on camera by a nearby business.

“We started this business, when I lost my son and we did it, as a way of commemorating, or honoring his memory. Inside here, we had a lot of collectible memorabilia, things that, honored his memory. And so in saying that, we know that the perpetrator came in here and within seven minutes, was very destructive,” says Herald, who added that the damages are worth thousands.

And while Herald is grateful for the support of the community and the police department, he does send a message to the alleged suspect.

“We know that young people make mistakes. My wife and I aren’t the kind of people that hold vendettas., but it would probably be in your best interest to go ahead and come forward,” said Herald.

The break-in is being investigated by Winchester Police.

Herald adds that there is a reward for information that could help with the arrest of the alleged suspect.
