Judge reinstates Randall Weddle as mayor of London

LONDON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A judge has reinstated Randall Weddle as mayor of London, just weeks after the city council voted to remove him from office.

Weddle was impeached on September 5 after council members cited alleged misconduct, including misuse of police resources. In the same meeting, the council voted to appoint Tracie Handley as acting mayor. Weddle later filed an appeal to challenge the decision.

On Monday night, during a special-called meeting about the city’s tax rate, Weddle addressed council members and urged them to work with him. He also shared a message with residents on Facebook, saying the court’s decision restored him to his position as mayor.

“It’s been a challenging time not just for me and my family, but for this community. It’s been a challenging time for the city employees,” Weddle said. He added that he hopes the city can move forward, asking residents and officials alike to come together, “heal those wounds, and forgive one another.”

Weddle also thanked supporters in London and across Kentucky for standing by him.
