Shot clock coming to high school basketball in 2027
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Big changes are coming to high school basketball in Kentucky.
Starting with the 2027–28 season, teams will play with a 35-second shot clock. The KHSAA Board of Control voted 13 to 5 in favor of the switch, putting Kentucky among 33 states nationwide now using a shot clock.
The move follows years of debate and a successful trial run at last year’s Louisville Invitational Tournament. Officials say the change will modernize the game and bring Kentucky high school basketball in line with the rest of the country.
