Corbin man arrested for stealing four-wheeler from tornado victims
CORBIN, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A Corbin man has been arrested and charged with receiving stolen property after investigators say he tried to sell a four-wheeler stolen from tornado victims in London.
According to the Whitley County Sheriff’s Office, 41-year-old Clifford Smith was arrested in connection with the theft of a 2008 Yamaha Raptor 50, valued at $1,300.
Deputies said the theft allegedly occurred at a property impacted by the May tornado in London. Investigators reported Smith attempted to sell the youth-size four-wheeler, claiming it had been through the tornado and that its handlebars were bent.
Following further investigation, deputies located the four-wheeler at a residence on Robert E. Cox Road, where an arrest warrant for Smith was executed.
Smith was charged with receiving stolen property valued at $1,000 or more but under $10,000. He is being held at the Whitley County Detention Center.
The sheriff’s office said the arrest serves as a reminder that thefts, especially from tornado victims, will not be tolerated.
