THE DOWN SYNDROME ASSOCIATION OF CENTRAL KENTUCKY
Rebecca Hannifan and Bridgette Campbell represent a group of independent business owners associated with Prüvit, a company headquartered in Louisville. They are here to share with you about a unique culinary experience they have planned for January 25 at Spring Valley Golf Club. Desiring to give back to the community, they have planned this charity event to promote awareness of Down syndrome and provide education/support initiatives for local families having members with Down syndrome.
After being seated, participants will don blindfolds and the lights will be lowered before the meal is served. Without the use of sight, diners will heighten their senses of smell, taste, and touch to enjoy and appreciate the meal on a completely different level.
Vision Statement:
We envision a community where people with Down syndrome are valued and included throughout their lives.
Mission Statement:
Our mission is to celebrate and support people with Down syndrome and their families and to educate ourselves and others throughout Central and Eastern Kentucky.
Impact Statement
We support and educate families and professionals in Central and Eastern Kentucky. We do this through hosting educational conferences for parents, teachers, therapists and medical professionals; publishing a quarterly magazine that celebrates accomplishments of individuals with Down syndrome and provides pertinent information for families and caregivers; presenting to school-age children on topics such as acceptance of those with Down syndrome and other disabilities; speaking to first-year medical students and therapy students, and holding at least four annual celebrations to bring together families and friends for support and advocacy. In 2015, we began a job enrichment program to teach teens and adults with Down syndrome job skills and help them secure meaningful employment so that they may be active and contributing members of their community.
