University of Kentucky adopts new Institutional Neutrality Policy

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — The University of Kentucky is rolling out a new “Institutional Neutrality Policy” in response to House Bill 4.

The university says it will no longer issue official statements on social or political issues that don’t directly affect campus operations. Leaders say the change is intended to ensure “viewpoint neutrality,” promote open debate, and encourage intellectual diversity without endorsing one side.

The policy also makes clear that while the university itself will remain neutral, students, faculty, and staff still retain the right to voice personal opinions and exercise academic freedom.

UK leaders say the goal is to foster dialogue on campus, not dictate it.
