Bengals prevail despite Burrow’s early exit

CINCINNATI, Oh. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – The Bengals pulled off a dramatic 31–27 comeback win over the Jaguars on Sunday, despite losing star quarterback Joe Burrow to a”left toe injury” in the second quarter.

Burrow was sacked midway through the second quarter and left the field limping. Initial reports suggest a possible turf toe injury, with further evaluation pending. His departure left the Bengals’ offense in the hands of backup QB Jake Browning.

Despite throwing three interceptions, he completed 21 of 32 passes for 241 yards and two touchdowns.

After throwing his third interception late in the fourth quarter, some fans began to file out. However, the Bengals defense bounced back with a quick four-and-out, giving Browning a shot at redemption.

In the final drive, Browning converted on two crucial fourth downs to keep the ball moving downfield. Browning then leaped into the end zone for a 1-yard quarterback sneak with just 18 seconds remaining, capping off a 92-yard game-winning drive.

“We looked adversity in the eye and didn’t flinch.” said Head Coach Zac Taylor. “The overall performance today wasn’t what our standard is or what we want, but proud, and everybody will learn from this and know that the Bengals are never out of it.”
