KSP investigating murder in McCreary County

STEARNS, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Kentucky State Police say they are investigating a murder in McCreary County following the discovery of a body during a missing person investigation.

According to a release, the McCreary County Sheriff’s Office contacted KSP Post 11 around 5:42 p.m. on September 11 regarding 36-year-old Damian A. Poole of Monument, Colorado, who had been reported missing.

Deputies executed a search warrant at Poole’s reported residence on Farm Ridge Road in Stearns. Inside, they discovered a deceased individual and two dead animals. The scene was secured until additional KSP units arrived.

State police say preliminary findings indicate the victim had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. At the residence, deputies located 39-year-old Daniel A. Kearney of Stearns.

According to KSP, Kearney was charged with murder, abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence, and cruelty to animals 2nd degree. He was taken to the Knox County Detention Center.

The McCreary County Coroner pronounced the victim deceased at 11:30 p.m. The body was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for autopsy, and the family has been notified.
