James Brown announces re-election campaign for Lexington Council At-Large seat

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Lexington Council Member At-Large James Brown has officially announced his campaign for re-election in 2026.

Brown was first appointed to the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council in 2015 by then-Mayor Jim Gray, representing the 1st District. He later won election to the seat and, in 2022, made history as the first African-American elected countywide to City Council.

In a statement, Brown said: “I am running for re-election because Lexington deserves experienced, visionary leadership that can unite our community and get things done.”

During his tenure as a district council member, Brown developed a reputation as a bridge-builder and strong community advocate. He currently serves on multiple boards and commissions, supporting nonprofits, arts initiatives, downtown development, and transportation projects.
