Laurel County Schools increases security after out-of-state threat against student

LONDON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Laurel County Public Schools say they have increased security after learning that a South Laurel High School student was threatened by a juvenile from out of state.

According to a statement posted on the district’s Facebook page, there was never an active threat on campus. Officials said the juvenile who made the threat has already been detained outside Kentucky.

As a precaution, additional law enforcement is now present at Laurel County high school campuses.

Sheriff John Root also released a video on social media, assuring families that authorities are taking steps to keep students safe.
