Irvine man charged in Jackson County deadly shooting appears in court

JACKSON COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Kentucky State Police say a man from Irvine is facing charges in connection with a deadly shooting in Jackson County.

Troopers arrested 24-year-old James S. Bergman earlier this month. He is charged with murder, tampering with physical evidence, and abuse of a corpse.

The case began in May, when investigators found 40-year-old James D. Carmack dead from a gunshot wound inside a vehicle on Richardson Road in McKee.

Bergman appeared in court Wednesday for a preliminary hearing. He remains lodged in the Three Forks Detention Center.
