KSP investigating Rockcastle County animal shelter after public concerns
ROCKCASTLE COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Kentucky State Police are investigating concerns at the Rockcastle County Animal Shelter, according to Judge-Executive Howell Holbrook.
Holbrook told ABC36 that KSP began looking into the shelter on Monday. The facility was also closed temporarily this week while new surveillance cameras were installed.
Meanwhile, pressure is mounting from the public. Nearly 4,500 people have signed an online petition calling for major changes at the shelter, including the removal of Director David Carpenter. Organizers allege neglect and inhumane conditions, and are pushing for new medical protocols and more transparency.
Animal advocacy group Ethan Almighty posted online: “To say what is going on at the Rockcastle Animal Shelter is horrific is a huge understatement.”
ABC 36 News Now has reached out to KSP for more details and to the shelter for comment but has not yet received a response. The investigation is ongoing.
