Lisa Higgins-Hord named to Lexington council seat for second time
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Mayor Linda Gorton has appointed Lisa Higgins-Hord to fill the open 6th District seat on the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council, following the resignation of Denise Gray on August 1.
According to the Mayor’s Office, Higgins-Hord most recently served as assistant vice president for community engagement at the University of Kentucky. She has also been active in the community through leadership roles with Commerce Lexington and service on numerous nonprofit boards.
Mayor Gorton praised the appointment, saying Higgins-Hord’s ties to the community will benefit residents of the 6th District. “Lisa Higgins-Hord is a proven leader in Lexington, and her strong ties to the community will benefit the people of the 6th District. It is an honor to welcome her to the Council,” the release stated.
This marks Higgins-Hord’s second time on the Council. In 2020, she was appointed to serve out the unexpired term of Angela Evans, who stepped down to pursue a graduate degree at Princeton University. At the time, Mayor Gorton noted Higgins-Hord’s experience at UK and her community engagement background made her well-suited to serve during a critical moment, as the city addressed systemic racism and moved forward with the Commission for Racial Justice and Equality.
Higgins-Hord said in the current release that she is eager to provide resources and support for families and neighborhoods across the 6th District. She will serve on the Council through January 4, 2027.
