New safety measures rolling out on UK’s campus

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – The University of Kentucky is rolling out new safety measures for the 2025-26 school year.

UK Police Chief Joe Monroe said the university is building on last year’s security improvements, which included more patrols, better lighting, and stronger security in parking garages and residence halls.

This year, new initiatives are being added. A mobile police unit will be stationed on North Campus, and residence halls will see upgraded cameras and access controls. Additional lighting will also be installed along Winslow and Scott streets.

The university is also launching several technology-based safety initiatives, including a new campus safety app called “SafeZone,” a first responder drone program, and a new safety campaign branded “Wildcat Ready.”
