Barbourville man accused of trying to run over police during high-speed chase
BARBOURVILLE, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A Barbourville man is facing multiple charges after police say he tried to run over two officers during a high-speed chase Tuesday.
According to investigators, 43-year-old Kenny Frye was stopped at a routine safety checkpoint when he allegedly accelerated toward the officers. Police say the chase reached speeds of up to 112 miles per hour, spanning KY-3439, Parkway Plaza, and U.S. 25E.
During the pursuit, Frye reportedly hit a patrol vehicle, then ran from his car after it stopped. Officers say he struck one officer before being tased and taken into custody. He was checked by EMS at the scene and cleared.
Frye is charged with attempted murder of a first responder, fleeing police, assaulting an officer, resisting arrest, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
