Man arrested in connection with Lexington assault

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Lexington police say one person has been arrested following an assault Wednesday afternoon on Short Street.

It happened around 12:40 p.m., when officers were called to the area of Short Street and North Upper Street for a report of an assault. When they arrived, they found a woman who had been physically attacked. She was taken to a local hospital with what police described as non-life-threatening injuries.

With help from the department’s Real-Time Intelligence Center and Air Support Unit, officers located the suspect nearby.

Police say 39-year-old Ronald Witham was arrested and charged with second-degree assault and third-degree assault of a police officer. He is being held at the Fayette County Detention Center.
