Former Laurel County school police chief faces DUI arraignment

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Dan Smoot, the former police chief for the Laurel County School District, is scheduled for arraignment Monday on DUI charges, court records show.

Smoot, 65, was arrested last Friday on suspicion of driving under the influence. School officials terminated his employment as district police chief after the arrest, noting he was off duty at the time of the alleged incident.

His arraignment is set for 9 a.m. in Laurel County District Court. The DUI case remains under review by prosecutors.
