UPDATE: Knox County man killed in collision with deputy’s vehicle, KSP investigates
CORBIN, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Kentucky State Police Post 10 is investigating a fatal collision involving a Knox County deputy’s vehicle on SE Business Drive in Corbin.
According to a KSP news release, troopers and a detective from Post 10 responded Thursday at approximately 9:30 p.m. at the request of Knox County Dispatch. Preliminary findings indicate a Knox County deputy attempted a traffic stop on a side-by-side UTV occupied by two men when the two vehicles collided.
The UTV’s driver, 21-year-old Todd St John, was taken to Baptist Health in Corbin, where he was later pronounced deceased. His 20-year-old passenger, Jerry Stewart, and Deputy Michael Ashurst, 39, were not injured, the release states.
The investigation remains ongoing.
