13th confirmed case of measles in Kentucky

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Health officials have confirmed another case of measles in Kentucky — the state’s 13th this year — after an adolescent in Louisville tested positive.

According to officials, the patient had recently traveled to a country experiencing an ongoing measles outbreak. Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg is urging residents to review their vaccination records and make sure they are up to date.

Louisville Public Health and Wellness is working to identify anyone who may have been exposed.

The CDC warns measles is highly contagious and continues to spread nationwide, with more than 1,200 cases reported in the U.S. so far in 2025. Health experts say two doses of the MMR vaccine are about 97% effective at preventing the disease.
