Traffic alert: Cooper Drive to close weekdays for stormwater project in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Lexington drivers, take note: a major road closure could impact your weekday commute for the next few weeks.

Starting Tuesday, Cooper Drive will be closed around the clock on weekdays between Romany Road and Andover Drive as the city begins a stormwater improvement project.

The closure is scheduled to last through Tuesday, August 12. City officials say only local traffic will be allowed—residents will still be able to access their homes, but all other drivers will need to use detours.

Crews will be installing new storm pipes and inlets to improve drainage in the area. Cooper Drive will remain open to all traffic on weekends.

Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra time when traveling through the area.
