Mercer County man charged with attempted murder of first responder

MERCER COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A Mercer County man is facing serious charges, including attempted murder of a first responder, after a late-night incident involving deputies Thursday.

According to the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were attempting to locate 53-year-old Troy Simmons on behalf of the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office and to serve two local warrants when one of their deputies was involved in a shooting with Simmons.

No injuries were reported, the sheriff’s office said in a Facebook post. Simmons was arrested and booked into the Jessamine County Detention Center, where he’s being held on a $250,000 bond.

Simmons is charged with attempted murder of a first responder, fleeing or evading police, and wanton endangerment of a police officer. He is scheduled to appear in court Monday afternoon.

Kentucky State Police are investigating the shooting.
