Family shares update on Richmond Road church shooting survivor
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — We’re learning more about one of the survivors of Sunday’s deadly shooting rampage at Richmond Road Baptist Church in Lexington.
According to a Facebook post by a family member, Randy Combs remains in the hospital after being shot twice in the face during the attack. The post says the bullets left entry and exit wounds behind his left ear, through his left cheek, and under his chin. Combs is stable, still using a breathing tube, and able to communicate with a whiteboard and marker.
The family member also said the second church survivor, Pastor Jerry Gumm, remains hospitalized as well.
As previously reported, Kentucky State Police say the shooting claimed the lives of 34-year-old Christina Combs — Randy’s wife — and her mother, 72-year-old Beverly Gumm, the pastor’s wife.
Investigators say the violence began around 11:30 a.m. Sunday when 47-year-old Guy House shot KSP Trooper Jude Remilien during a traffic stop near Blue Grass Airport. House then carjacked a vehicle and drove to the church, opening fire shortly after 12:30 p.m. Officers shot and killed House in the church’s back parking lot area.
State police continue to investigate the shooting.
