New details emerge on Richmond Road church shooting suspect

Arrest records and victim's family reveal past domestic violence and troubling history of alleged shooter Guy House

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – A family is mourning the loss of a mother and daughter following a fatal shooting Sunday at Richmond Road Baptist Church, as new details emerge about the suspected gunman.

According to those there when the shooting happened, House shot and killed 34-year-old Christina Combs before entering the church and confronting other members of the victim’s family.

“He shot twice at my mom, he shot once she ducked and like held her face, and then he shot her a second time it hit her in the chest, she fell,” said Star Rutherford, the victim’s daughter.

Officials say Star’s mother 72 year old Beverly Gumm died from the shooting.  Star said House entered the church shortly after the shooting and began asking for his former girlfriend, Angel Rutherford.

“And he’s like where’s Angel and we were like, ‘Angel’s not here,’ and my mom was like ‘Angel’s not here,’ and he was like ‘well I guess someone’s going to have to die then,'” said Star.

Officials told ABC News that House had been involved in a domestic situation with an ex-girlfriend who had filed protection orders against him.

Angel Rutherford said she had three children with House but kept her distance from him.

“Because of his mental illness and drug addiction I was very careful about interaction you must be with something like that,” said Angel.

Arrest records show House has a lengthy criminal history, including a probation violation in December and domestic violence assault charges in 2018. According to court documents, House was scheduled to appear in Fayette County court Monday morning in connection with a domestic violence case.
