Armed man shot by homeowner, arrested after Pike County standoff

PIKE COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — An eastern Kentucky man is facing multiple charges after he was shot during a break-in that led to a standoff in Elkhorn City, according to Kentucky State Police.

Troopers say 44-year-old George Standifur broke into a home Monday on West 5th Street, armed with a gun. Investigators say Standifur allegedly threatened the homeowner’s family, prompting the homeowner to shoot him.

Despite being injured, troopers say Standifur fled the home with his weapon and ran to a nearby alley, where a standoff began.

After hours of negotiation, Standifur was taken into custody and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

He is now charged with attempted murder, terroristic threatening, resisting arrest, and alcohol intoxication.

The investigation is ongoing.
