Kentucky women commemorate lightning strike with tattoos
MARCO ISLAND, Fla. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A group of women from southeastern Kentucky is commemorating a life-changing moment with matching lightning bolt tattoos after surviving a lightning strike over the weekend in Florida.
Officials say the strike happened Saturday on Marco Island after a storm rolled through the area. The women say they had taken cover under a tiki hut when lightning struck nearby and traveled through the ground, leaving them with minor injuries.
Danielle Sturgill, one of the women in the group, shared the meaning behind their new tattoos. “So we’re here getting lightning bolt tattoos, matching tattoos, um, to remember our girls trip and to just thank God that that we’re here to do it,” she said.
The group shared their story on national television Tuesday morning during an appearance on Good Morning America on ABC 36 News Now.
