KSU hoops takes down McKendree, 71-64

FRANKFORT, Ky. (KSU Athletics) – After snapping their five-game losing streak with a 62-39 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) road win versus the LeMoyne-Owen Lady Magicians, in Memphis, TN., the Kentucky State Thorobreds women’s basketball team returned home to the William Exum Center, to win its second conservative game, 74-61 versus the McKendree Bearcats.

The Thorobreds were down by as much as 12 points, 28-16 at 5:30 in the second quarter, until taking a 40-39 lead at 3:22 in the third quarter, behind 6′ senior forward Tara Jefferson making a layup.

From there the Thorobreds never trailed, as they led by as much as 13 points twice, at 6:50 and 6:21 in the fourth quarter.

Helping to lead the Thorobreds back to .500 was Amani Williams. In 24 minutes of playing time, the 5′ 6″ junior point guard led all with 18 points and five steals.

Also scoring in double figures for the Thorobreds (5-5, 1-3 SIAC) were Jefferson, 6′ 1″ junior forward Kiante Butts, and 5′ 11″ sophomore forward Erica Jones, with 16, 14 and 11 points respectively.

With 17, 11 and 20 points respectively, 5′ 10″ sophomore point guard Diekhoff, 6′ junior forward Megan Jensen and 5′ 11″ junior shooting guard Jordan Heberg were the only players to score in double figures for McKendree. However, McKendree’s 5′ 10″ junior shooting guard Madison Parker led all with 10 rebounds.

Next up for Kentucky State is an exhibition game in Dayton, Oh., 11:00 AM ET Thursday, December 13, versus the Wright State Raiders.
