Lee County’s back to school

LEE COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) — Lee County Elementary had a great first day back Tuesday.

The school is excited for the new year. Not only did it get back its Music and Arts program after years without it, the school also has new security measures.

“I think investing in kids now in the arts will help the future in a lot of ways,” says Music and Art teacher Charla White.

The school has your students’ safety as its main priority.

Teachers have taken active shooter training.

“We really felt like that would be something beneficial to us as a staff so we would know how to react in a specific situation so we can provide the best care for our students,” says 5th grade teacher James Dailey.

The school also has new procedures for letting people into the building. Guests to the school now have to be in clear view of the security camera and be buzzed in. Then someone will be sent to let you in.

The school’s also enhanced student pick up lines and the process of kids being checked out to make it safer.

Teachers say they are ready for the new year and will make it a great one for their students.

“I’m excited to be on this new journey with the kids,” says Mrs. White. “I’m sure I’ll learn as much from them as they will from me. And hopefully they’ll create some lasting memories.”
