Post offices, banks closed Thursday for Juneteenth holiday
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Federal offices, including post offices across Kentucky, will be closed Thursday, June 19, in observance of the Juneteenth holiday.
Officials say there will be no mail delivery, phone services, or access to post office boxes during the closure. Most major banks and courthouses are also expected to be closed.
Regular services will resume on Friday.
Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865 — the day enslaved people in Texas were informed of their freedom. In Kentucky, slavery officially ended six months later with the ratification of the 13th Amendment.
