Suspect arrested after standoff and shots fired at troopers in Pulaski County
SOMERSET, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A suspect is in custody after an overnight standoff in Pulaski County, where police say shots were fired at state troopers.
Kentucky State Police say 69-year-old John Woody, of Somerset, was arrested and charged with Wanton Endangerment 1st – Discharge of Firearm, and Murder of First Responder (Peace Officer) (Attempt). KSP says Woody will face charges place by Somerset Police Department.
According to KSP, the incident began Sunday night on East Mount Vernon Street near the intersection of Crawford Avenue in Somerset. Troopers responded to what they described as an active barricade situation.
Investigators say Woody allegedly fired shots at troopers during the standoff. Fortunately, no law enforcement officers were injured.
