Truck erupts in flames after plunging off I-65 ramp in Louisville; driver escapes with minor injuries

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A dramatic crash on I-65 in Louisville ended with a semi-truck engulfed in flames — and a near-miraculous escape by the driver.

The crash happened around 10 a.m. Friday, when a truck veered off the I-65 southbound ramp near the Kennedy Bridge. Officials say the driver jumped from the cab just before the truck burst into flames and suffered only minor injuries.

Fire crews responded quickly and were able to extinguish the blaze.

The crash shut down parts of the interstate for several hours as crews cleared the scene and inspectors examined the ramp.

This marks the fourth similar crash in the same area since May. Transportation officials say safety upgrades are currently in the planning stages.
