Madison County launches new text-to-911 service

MADISON COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Residents in Madison County now have a new way to contact emergency services: by text.

Officials announced the launch of the county’s text-to-911 service on Thursday, allowing people to send a message to 911 when calling isn’t safe or possible.

The service is designed to help in situations such as domestic violence incidents, active threats, or for individuals who are hearing or speech impaired.

Authorities remind residents to call 911 when they can, but text when they can’t.
