Soldier killed, another injured in helicopter training crash at Fort Campbell

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A training accident at Fort Campbell has left one soldier dead and another injured after a military helicopter crashed Wednesday night near the Tennessee border.

During his Team Kentucky update Thursday, Governor Andy Beshear called the incident heartbreaking.

“We’ve lost a serviceman down in Fort Campbell. We’re all grieving for that individual’s family. We hope that everyone will lift them up in your prayers,” Beshear said. “No matter how it happens, when we lose someone who is committed to serving our country, I know it hurts that family—but it should hurt us all.”

Hopkinsville Mayor James R. Knight Jr. also issued a statement, saying:
“On behalf of the City of Hopkinsville, I extend my deepest condolences to the family of the servicemember who lost their life in last night’s aviation incident.”

Military officials have not yet released the names of the two soldiers involved.

Helicopter Training Incident

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. — At approximately 7 p.m. last night there was an aviation incident in the Fort Campbell training area involving two servicemembers. Emergency services responded immediately. One Soldier was confirmed deceased, and the other was evacuated to Blanchfield Army Community Hospital and is in stable condition. The names of those involved are being withheld until 24 hours after next of kin notification out of respect for the families.

The incident is under investigation.
