Woman charged with murder after father found shot to death in Prestonsburg home
PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A Prestonsburg woman is facing a murder charge after police say she admitted to shooting her father inside a home on Kentucky 321.
According to a release from the Prestonsburg Police Department, 22-year-old Summer Adkins called 911 around 9 p.m. on Monday and told dispatchers she had shot her father, 62-year-old Jimmy D. Harvey of Prestonsburg.
When officers and EMS arrived at the scene, they found Harvey dead from multiple gunshot wounds. He was located inside the home, seated in a chair, and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Floyd County Coroner. His body was taken to the Office of the Kentucky Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.
Adkins was detained at the scene and charged with one count of murder.
