Former Lexington Councilmember announces for Barr’s congressional seat
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Former Lexington councilmember and local entrepreneur David Kloiber has officially launched his campaign for Congress in Kentucky’s 6th District.
Kloiber, a Democrat, made the announcement Wednesday at Elite Graphics in Lexington, where he was joined by supporters. In a campaign speech, he said he plans to focus on jobs, healthcare, housing, and education.
“We need to create more jobs,” Kloiber said during the event. “We need to make sure people have access to doctors and prescriptions when they need them, make sure there’s housing for people in the growing community. We need to make sure that our kids have every opportunity they can to grasp a better future.”
Kloiber is one of several candidates entering the race to replace Rep. Andy Barr, who announced a bid for the U.S. Senate following Senator Mitch McConnell’s decision not to seek re-election. Republican State Representative Ryan Dotson of Winchester and Democrat Cherlynn Stevenson have also filed to run.
Kentucky’s 6th Congressional District includes Lexington and surrounding counties.
