God’s Pantry Food Bank surprised with free breakfast sandwiches

McDonald's Franchise hands out Egg McMuffins and 400 coupons to volunteers and food recipients

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Tuesday is National Egg Day, and a popular fast food chain used the occasion to surprise a Lexington organization.

Members at God’s Pantry Food Bank were treated to a complimentary breakfast courtesy of the McDonald’s.

McDonald’s franchise owner Denise Long and her team handed out free Egg McMuffins to those serving at the food bank Tuesday morning.

“You know we serve the community, that’s what we do,” Long said. “So you know whether you come in our restaurant or whether we give donations, it’s about just helping the community. Giving back to the community in which you do business and serve,” said Long

In addition to breakfast, Long and her team donated 400 “Be Our Guest” coupons for Egg McMuffins to the food bank, to be distributed to community members picking up groceries.

“So they’re the ‘Be Our Guest’ cards, so they can take them to any McDonald’s in our area, cash them in and get a free sandwich as well, an Egg McMuffin,” Long said.

While National Egg Day puts eggs in the spotlight, they’ve already made headlines this year due to spiking prices. But Long said her franchise stores never faced any challenges.

“We have not had any issues with eggs or getting egg products or anything,” Said Long. “We do have round eggs, real round eggs that we serve, so no we have not had any problems with our business and running short or anything to that nature,” said Long.

Long added that this donation was especially meaningful, as it marked the first time her franchise had donated to God’s Pantry’s new location.
