Pedestrian hit while trying to save cat on Liberty Road
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — On May 15th around 10 a.m. on Liberty Road, Olivia Short says she was the victim of a hit-and-run while trying to save a cat in the middle of the road.
“Other cars were kind of slowing down, noticing me, stopping and a truck blew through,” she said. “It could have been really bad; it hit me on the shoulder.”
After a trip to the doctor, Short says she only suffered minor injuries, but the shock of being hit by a pickup truck has stuck with her.
“I like to go on walks through my neighborhood, and I still like get that creepy feeling when I can hear a car coming up behind me,” Short said.
Liberty Road is part of Short’s morning commute, but this time she noticed a helpless cat in the middle of the road.
“Something in me that day was like ‘this is my job, I got to move this cat out of the road,'” she said.
Despite being hit, she said she was able to get the cat back to a safe part of the area.
“Some people might say it’s silly, like why would you risk your life for an animal like that,” she said. “That’s just who I am.”
The Lexington Police Department tells us its hit-and-run unit continues to investigate the collision.
They urge anyone with information to contact the Lexington Police Department or submit a tip to Bluegrass Crime Stoppers.
