Kentucky National Guard rescues family dog
LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Amid the widespread devastation left behind by a deadly tornado in Laurel County, a small moment of hope and compassion emerged — a family dog pulled from the rubble by Kentucky National Guard soldiers.
According to the National Guard, members of the 1st Battalion, 149th Infantry — known as the “Mountain Warriors” — discovered and rescued the dog while helping search through the remains of a destroyed home.
The heartwarming rescue is a reminder, officials say, that even in times of great tragedy, moments of kindness and humanity still shine through.
“We’re proud to serve and support our neighbors in every way possible — including our four-legged friends,” the National Guard said in a statement.
The unit remains on the ground in Laurel County, assisting with search, recovery, and relief efforts.
