Former chief prosecutor remembers President George H.W. Bush

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — In 1992, former Fayette County commonwealth attorney Ray Larson was in the White House Rose Garden being honored by President George H.W. Bush.

Larson says the experience changed his life.

“My experience with dealing with him probably lasted 3 minutes but it was something I’ll never forget,” says Larson.

Bush was honoring him for his work with crime victims.

“We worked very hard at dealing with crime victims,” says Larson. “Making them feel like the system was supposed work for them instead of screwing them.”

Larson’s Victim Assistance Program was one of the nation’s top victim programs at that time.

He remembers that moment like it was yesterday.

“It’s just very impressive that a guy in that position would spend time talking to peons like me,” says Larson.

He says the impact Bush leaves behind is that he was a nice guy, a true gentleman.

“And that’s a pretty good legacy to leave,” says Larson.
