Ashland Elementary celebrates National Bike, Walk and Roll to School Day

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — Students at Ashland Elementary took a different route to class Wednesday morning — by ditching cars in favor of bikes, scooters, and walking shoes.

The school hosted its first-ever “Bike, Walk, and Roll to School” event, encouraging families to try out a more active and environmentally friendly commute.

Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton and Fayette County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Demetrus Liggins joined the fun, greeting students and parents as they made their way to school.

While the event brought plenty of smiles, organizers say it also promotes bigger goals — like healthier habits, building stronger community connections, and reducing car pollution around schools.

Ashland hopes to make it an annual tradition.
