Stranger helps save blind woman from house fire
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Smoke was pouring out of a Lexington home on Fort Sumter Drive when Casey Campbell drove by with her daughter. Campbell banged on the door. She says she found a blind and partially deaf woman and her caretaker inside. Campbell helped both get out.
“I went into panic rescue mommy mode,” said Campbell.
Firefighters say the fire began in the living room area by the fireplace. The Battalion Chief says there were no injuries and they were able to get the fire out pretty quick. The home is temporarily unlivable, but the people inside have a place to stay.
“The fact that she was able to notice that and notify the occupants was definitely a factor in them getting out safely,” said Battalion Chief Brad Whittaker.
As firefighters continued working on the house, Campbell was greeted with hugs from family and friends of the homeowner.
“I’m glad that I got them out, that it wasn’t dangerous or more than what it is,” said Campbell.
