Sean Woods named boys basketball Head Coach at Scott County
Woods fills the shoes left by former Head Coach Steve Helton
GEORGETOWN, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW)- Former Kentucky player and college coaching veteran, Sean Woods, is the new Head Coach for Scott County’s boy’s basketball team.
Woods, a former coach with seven NCAA programs, is tasked with turning around a Cardinal program that ended with a 6-21 record last season.
His return to coaching comes after a two year break from the sidelines following a five year stint as Head Coach at Southern University, where he led the Jaguars to a 64-81 overall record.
He has served as color analyst for local high school basketball broadcasts on GLICOD most recently, specializing in calling games in the hotly contested 11th Region, in which the Cardinals play.
Basketball fans in the Bluegrass will remember Woods as one of Kentucky’s “Unforgettables” under former head coaches Rick Pitino and Tubby Smith.
Woods played 91 games for the Wildcats, has his number 11 jersey hanging from the rafters in Rupp Arena along with his membership in the UK Athletics Hall of Fame.
The Indianapolis native also held a head coaching role at Morehead State from 2012 to 2016.
