Clinton County man arrested after allegedly using his son to shoplift

ALBANY, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — A Clinton County man is facing multiple charges after police say he tried to use his 13-year-old son to carry out a shoplifting scheme.

According to officers, Jonathan Carlton was arrested Saturday at the Cumberland Crossing Center after allegedly directing his son to push a shopping cart full of merchandise out of a Walmart without paying.

Police say Carlton had loaded the cart himself before instructing his son to take it outside. Carlton left the store before the attempt, but his son was caught by store employees.

Officers later located Carlton nearby and took him into custody.

He is now facing several charges, including abandonment and endangering the welfare of a minor.
