Clean up in Powell Co. after severe storm damage
POWELL COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) — Powell County is trying to recover after Monday night’s severe thunderstorm came through.
Almost a thousand people were without power Monday night into Tuesday morning.
Clay City got the worst of the storm damage with trees down on houses, power lines down, and one man’s entire roof was torn off his home.
Ricky Shuler who lives in the house, says he had just replaced the roof a few months back and now he was back to square one.
Haley Strange had a tree fall into her home while her and her family were inside.
“We didn’t even realize it had hit the house until I walked back into the bedroom,” Strange says. “I thought I was dreaming for a second and then I saw the tree. It was on my bed.”
She says the tree also totaled her car and damaged her husband’s car.
Strange says even with the damages, she feels thankful.
“Things could’ve been so much worse, it really could have,” says Strange. “I’m just so thankful that my kids are okay and my husband and I are okay.”
Witnesses to the storm say in all their years of living in Clay City they’ve never experienced a storm like this, causing so much damage in such a short amount of time.
