Madison County Man Charged With Burglary
Police say on Saturday, a resident of Maryland Drive reported that his home had been unlawfully entered sometime during the previous day and a small safe/lockbox containing approximately $20,000.00 in cash was stolen.
The cash was part of a settlement that the victim had received. Police say it appeared that entry had been gained through a rear window that was found to be unsecure.
During the course of the investigation, authorities say Alexander emerged as a suspect. Shortly after the report of the burglary, Alexander was involved in a traffic accident on the Eastern Bypass at the Exit 87 bridge. Police say the investigating officer discovered the stolen safe/lockbox in Alexander’s vehicle.
The safe/lockbox was empty at the time, but police say Alexander had $401.00 in cash on his person. According to authorities, a subsequent search of Alexander’s apartment resulted in the recovery of $17,000.00 in cash hidden in a sofa.
Alexander was charged for second degree burglary and lodged in the Madison County Detention Center.
