Escaped inmate from Richmond captured in Bell County after walk-off in Harlan County

BELL COUNTY, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — A Richmond man who walked away from a work release crew in southeastern Kentucky is back in custody, according to Kentucky State Police.

Troopers say 46-year-old Robert Taylor escaped Monday afternoon around 1:30 p.m. while working with a crew along Highway 119 in Harlan County. Taylor was serving time when he reportedly walked away from his assignment.

Police noted that Taylor has ties to both Richmond and Barbourville, which prompted a wider search across the region.

According to KSP, Taylor was located and apprehended later in the evening.

No further details about the circumstances of the arrest or additional charges have been released. The investigation is ongoing.
