Carl Spackler wins Maker’s Mark Mile at Keeneland
Come from behind win for the Chad Brown trained horse
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW)- Jockey Flavien Prat cut Carl Spackler (IRE) loose as they rode into the final turn in the Maker’s Mark Mile at Keeneland on Friday to win the race by four and a half lengths.
Carl Spackler and Prat were in fourth place from the start to the far turn, but then the pair swept past the field to find the Irish horse’s third Grade 1 win.
“(When I asked him to go at the top of the stretch), he went a little quicker than I was expecting, to be honest. I was traveling well and I thought the leader kind of had an easy lead. So I tipped him out just to make sure I could get myself going and that’s when he really jumped on the bridle. Turning for home, I thought maybe I moved too soon, but he was just that good,” said Prat.
Chad Brown trains Carl Spackler, who completed the race in 1:36:56 and maintains a perfect record at Keeneland. He won the Coolmore Turf Mile (G1) last fall.

- Carl Spackler returned $3.66, $2.70 and $2.12.
